I just managed to break my virtual machine so it's the same as you describe yours, incredibly laggy and lighting not working. I achieved this feat by booting the VM without 3D acceleration enabled.

Unfortunately, rebooting with 3D acceleration switched on didn't fix Shiva. It took me a little while to figure out what was wrong - in the IDE, in the Scene Viewer window, select Render Options from the Display menu. The setting for 3D Device Driver had switched to "Software, Low Quality" and stayed there even after booting with 3D acceleration enabled. I set it to Hardware, High Quality and everything is back to normal.

FYI, I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) yesterday and ShiVa works like a charm. VirtualBox FTW!

Now that I'm working on sound for my project, I've come across a an issue where audio would stop working in the Shiva editor after about five to ten minutes. Once this happened, sounds wouldn't play and sound.isPlaying() permanently returned true. Despite this, other applications running in the virtual machine would continue to produce sound.

Restarting Shiva restored audio for another five to ten minutes.

This isn't related to the bug that was recently fixed that caused the audio to stop working after hitting pause then stop.

It appears that I've been able to resolve this by setting the host driver to ALSA in Virtual Box settings, so it's probably got something to do with PulseAudio on Ubuntu.

I haven't done extensive testing, but I've had no audio problems for the last hour since making this change, which is the longest period I've had unbroken audio since I noticed the issue.
