video: web/standalone player performance linux foss drivers

i was quite surprised when i tested the latest linux player(s) with my old linux machine, because it runs the foss drivers exclusively, being too old to receive active driver support from amd/ati (r300/radeon9600). the standalone runs better, all the artefacts are gone, plus, i beefed up the performance between the two takes (1800 fps in glxgears to 2700 fps, tinkering with the xorg.conf).

why do i get those different results nontheless?

the webplayer reports version 1.8.0.1, while the standalone says it's 1.9.0. seems like the flickering is fixed in 1.9, but i thought the webplayer would auto-update... any thoughts on that, dear dev team?
