Cannot install on fedora 14 *easily* due to a lacking of gksu, and its dependencies, and some of theirs in yum. As far as operations what does the installer actually do?

EDIT: immediate edit after i actually found out what it does (aka not much, gotta love sudo). *slaps self*. Doesnt work with firefox 4.0b8 beta by the way hehe.

Quick google search told me that due to red hat's security overmindedness you have to use policykit. Never in my life used it, but apparently its also on ubuntu, suse, and arch.
There is no kdesu or gksu built in.

new version, includes some hardware and software checks (opengl, processor, drivers, memory, firefox location, stuff like that). still uses gksu though. please report any bugs and oddities.

latest release: features a bunch of improvements, like user checking, auto-chmod, gksu/kdesu switch (works with kubuntu and other kde-centric distros now), install-from-anywhere (prior, you had to run the installer from a directory inside your /home/$user-structure). hope you like it.

Hy,
I wanted to install shiva3d, with the installer posted above.
But I get an error similar to this (my linux is not english so I don't know the exact translation):
chmod: can't acces 'res/user.sh' file or folder doesn't exist
chmod: can't acces 'res/s3d_li' file or folder doesn't exist

the problem is that these files and folders do exist, so I don't really know what the problem is and how to solve it:s

Thanks
genzm

looks like a path/currentworkingdirectory issue.
how do you start it (terminal or file manager, if so, which one)?
what is your distribution?

try to open a terminal, cd to the directory of the installer, and then run the install sh form the terminal, see if that works.

PS: since you are new here, i just wanted to point out that this installer only puts the players on your system, not the editor, so it does not really install "shiva3d", but the firefox plugin (required to see the online apps) and the standalone players.

Distro is ubuntu.
And I will test the things you mentionned from the time I get on the ubuntu pc.:p

there is currently no native linux (or mac or anything else than windows, for that matter) editor. while the engine runtime is ported to a myriad of platforms by now, the 1.x editor series remains on windows. native mac and linux editors are planned for 2.x, which will not be due before q4 2011/beginning of 2012.

so you will need some sort of windows environment on your machine, either a dual-boot or a virtual machine.

PS: i tested the installer with the current (11.04) stock ubuntu, it worked out of the box. after double-clicking runme.sh, i was taken to the window. hardware report only works 50% as they stopped shipping mesautils in the past few versions, but that was expected.
